Peru STM 2017
June 13 – 21
Participants: CCCC – Pastor Choi, Candy Wu, Thomas Luk, Eveline Luk, Jolland Leung, Sharon Leung, Other – Phillip and Alice Ho of Wycliffe, Stephen Li of Alliance church from Calgary
Background:
- There’re 3 regions in Peru, west is coastal plain, centre is high and rugged Andes, east is jungles and the Amazon basin
- We will work with local agency ATEK through Wycliffe Bible Translators to serve the Quechua people in Cusco who live on the Andes with an altitude of 11,000 ft
- There’re Quechua churches and believers throughout different villages but they lack spiritual resources. It’s common to find illiterates and abused women.
- ATEK aims to evangelize to the non-believers, to train up pastors and church leaders and to provide the Quechua people with literacy education so that they can read their Bible
- There’re only 6 staff in ATEK but there’re hundreds of scattered villages so they need external help to carry out their ministry
- Our presence is a definite encouragement to ATEK staff and the marginalized Quechua people
- In Acts 1:8 before His ascension to heaven Jesus told us: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
- May God help us to be His witness not just in Coquitlam but also to the needy people group in Peru, Amen!
Activities in Peru:
- Conduct workshops for the local pastors, church leaders, Sunday school teachers and women, both at ATEK centre and in the villages
